Tooke Street 1940s
Mrs Ellen Thurgar, nee Lambert, (1889-1978). Mrs Thurgar worked in various departments of Morton's factory in Westferry Road for most of her life. She was born in Manilla Street, Isle of Dogs and married George Thurgar. They lived at No.2 Tooke Street until bombed out in the Blitz, then moved to No.33 Tooke Street, where this photograph was taken in the 1940s. When Tooke Street was knocked down in post-war reconstruction, she moved to a flat in Manchester Road, over the shops opposite George Green School. From G. Thurgar
