Tobago Street 1929
Charles Seymour, stevedore, b. 1870s, d.1940s., in the back yard of his home in Tobago Street, Isle of Dogs, next door to the pub, known as ‘The Ash Bucket'. He gave up being a stevedore after an accident in the docks, and opened a little shop in their front room. In the back yard, pictured here, he kept chickens, rabbits and pigeons, and bred wire-haired terriers. In the cellar underneath the house, he had a workshop, where he made intricate dolls houses and birdcages. His grand - children remember him as ‘a very stern old man, a proper Victorian dad.' c1929.
