Castalia Square Cubitt Town 1966
Castalia Square, Cubitt Town, Isle of Dogs, in the Autumn of 1966. On the left is St. Mildred's House, built to replace the original S. Mildred's on Westferry Road, and used as a home for the parish workers. Next to St. Mildred's is the mission hall and vicarage of St. John's Church, which stood nearby - on the site now occupied by Roserton Street Clinic. The mission hall and vicarage have been demolished to make way for Island House Church and Community Centre. The vicarage was built in the 1870s and had the following accomodation: Night nursery, day nursery, bathroom with cold water supply and fireplace, large bedroom, spare bedroom, servants bedroom, W.C., landing and stairs, dining room, drawing room, study, entrance hall, W.C, entrance lobby, small room, kitchen, pantry, scullery and coal place. There were bells to summon the servants, and a walled garden. The vicarage was badly damaged by a bomb in the Blitz. by Rev. B. K. Andrews
