East Ferry Road 1910s
George Studd (on the far right), partner with T. F. Maltby in his stevedoring business in East Ferry Road, Isle of Dogs. George Studd was a gearman - he looked after the ropes, tackle etc. The site was opposite the George Hotel, near the railway arches and Millwall Dock Station. The sons of both men came to work in the business before becoming stevedores themselves and young Maltby eventually took over the business and made a success of it. Maltby amalgamated with Scruttons in 1975. by J. Studd
