Jack Beddoes (Hesperus Crescent) and Jim Studd (Cahir Street), with two others, names unknown, on board the paddle steamer ‘Victoria”, where they were sleeping whilst doing six months wotk for the Navy on the conversion of Thames barges into landing craft for the supposed landing in France during the Second World War. These barges were possibly just a decoy to make the Germans think we were ready to invade. On trials on the thames. They could not be steered - they had 2 lorry engines installed. by J. Studd
