Cahir Street 1920s
1920s. The allotments in Cahir Street: At the back, Mr Frost and Mrs Murrell; in front, Mr Henry Garland (of Cahir Street d.1940), his son Ben, and daughter Jessie. These allotments were behind the old houses in Cahir Street (where the flats are now). Local folk used to have a plot and grow flowers and vegetables, and there was an Annual Show, where all the vegetables, etc., were judged and prizes given. There is a silver cup in the photograph which Mr Garland won for five years and which is still in the family today, having been passed down to a grandson. by Mrs E. Platt
