Beckenham 1940s

Image Number:

Island History Trust Image Collection

Mrs Regan in the back garden of her new home in Beckenham in 1941. Taken by her husband. The Regans lived on the Isle of Dogs where Mr Regan worked in Heavy Rescue during the war. Their house was so badly damaged by bombing during the Blitz that they were only able to live in one room of it. By 1941, with two small children, this had become impossible so they looked for a new home but could find nowhere on the Isle of Dogs because so much of it had been bombed. In the end they looked south of the river and found a home in Beckenham. by Mrs and Mrs Regan
