How do I obtain a copy of an image?

Photographic copies can be obtained from Tower Hamlets Local Studies and Archives (there is a charge for this service) or a maximum of 5 digital copies can be emailed to you. If you would like to use the images for publication or display please contact us at localhistory@towerhamlets.gov.uk

1950s Glengall Road School, Cubitt Town: The School Staff. Back row, left to right: Dennis Coote, Mr Cole, Mr Tanner, Mr Dale, Mr E, Braithwate, Miss N. Locke, Bill Taylor, Mrs Thomas. Front row: Miss S. Saunders, (later Mrs Beecham), Mr E. Schilling, Mrs Fisher, Mr J. G. Taylor, Mr C.Bone (headmaster), Mrs Taylor, Mr S. Freeborn. Mr Braithwate, author of ‘To Sir With Love', spent part of the year at the school; he subsequently wrote his best selling novel, which was made into a film with Sidney Poitier. The book was not based on his experiences at the school! Mr Taylor was senior master, later head of Harbinger School; Mrs Taylor, senior mistress, previously Miss Newbury, married Mr Taylor in 1949 or 1950; Mrs Fisher had a Polish surname too difficult to pronounce; Miss S. Saunders, later Mrs Beecham, left GRS in 1957 and moved to Wking; she kept in touch with Miss Locke and (not in the photograph) Miss Irene Weeks, who taught in the school and whose parents lived at No. 14 Parsonage Street; she now lives with her husband and sons in Virginia USA. by Mrs Beecham
