On the right: William Charles Needham, (1892-1929). He was born in Rotherhithe and moved to the Isle of Dogs after his marriage to Caroline Batchelor of Deptford. He is seen here in the Essex Regiment, with which he served throughout the First World War. He and his family always lived in No 83 Stebondale Street. By trade he was a tally clerk, working in the docks checking and weighing goods. by John Needham (son)
