Cahir Street and Harbinger Road 1930s
View of rooftops in Cahir Street and Harbinger Road, a picture taken from the windows of Harbinger School, in the 1930s, apparently in the winter-time after a light fall of snow. The three houses in the foreground have since been demolished and replaced with new houses. This picture was published in a folder produced by the Isle of Dogs Housing Society and designed to raise money and promote their activities in providing better homes for Island families. The picture may have been intended to suggest over-crowding and dreariness, though in fact, this type of two-bedroom house with garden has always been the most popular type of working-class home. by IOD Housing Society
