An Evening School outing from Millwall to Kent 1900s
An Evening School outing from Millwall to Kent, 1900s. Includes: B. Hiscott, Fisher, Rayne, Doe, Newton, W. Palmer, Keithing, G. Doe, L. Ward, Moyce, Bone, E. Barham, W. Goldsteen, B. Hunt (these names were written on the back of the photograph). Bert Hiscott, born 1898, wrote in his autobiography: ‘A useful feature of Island life was the Evening Continuation School in what was then Glengall Road and where I belonged to a gymnasium squad which was taken very seriously. Dances were held once a week, and I recall at least one Fancy Dress Ball. Many romances arose from these occasions and I met my future wife there.' ( the future Mrs Hiscott came from Launch Street, Cubitt Town). It is not known whether the Evening Institute at that time was in the old Millwall Central, or the old Cubitt Town School. by Mis E. Hiscott
