The war-time wedding of Hilda Chamberlain and George Waller, 1940. Bridesmaids: Lily, Edie, Margaret and Mary Chamberlain, and a sister of the groom. He was an iron moulder from Hartlepool, employed at Manganese and Bronze Ltd. There are a number of his relatives in the photograph. Other Islanders are: George Chamberlain, Blanche Day, Mr and Mrs Bill Margetts, Daisy Coppin, Mr and Mrs Jimmy Kemp, Doreen Kemp and Mrs Myers. In September 1940 the Chamberlains, including Hilda and her husband, were evacuated to Essex and none of them ever returned to live on the Island. by Mrs Hilda Walker
