Millwall Westferry Road 1900s
C &E Mortons, probably their Millwall factory, and appears to be the jam-making or fruit preserving room. Part of a collection of photographs belonging to Mr Bert Hiscott, who worked at Mortons from 1902 to 1934. He wrote in his auto-biography: The peak period of the year was of course the fruit season and it was strange how the ‘bush telegraph' seemed to know when the fruit was expected to arrive, which would need ‘picking over', i.e, plugging strawberries, snibbing gooseberies, strigging black currants, and queues used to form at an early hour outside the factory gate for this poorly paid work. by Miss Hiscott
