How do I obtain a copy of an image?
Photographic copies can be obtained from Tower Hamlets Local Studies and Archives (there is a charge for this service) or a maximum of 5 digital copies can be emailed to you. If you would like to use the images for publication or display please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
23 Manchester Grove 1920s
Frederick Lyons, born 20 December 1919, and his brother Walter, born 1923. Both boys attended Harbinger Road School and lived at No. 23 Manchester Grove, where this photograph was taken in the front garden in the late 1920s. Frederick says; I am wearing my Christmas present of a new pair (secondhand) of football boots. My brother had just received new shoes for his birthday. When Fred left school he worked at Taylor Walker’s brewery in Limehouse, walking to work to save money; he and his friend Steve Honey started out at 6.30am. He also sold evening papers outside the ‘Princess of Wales. by F. Lyons
