How do I obtain a copy of an image?

Photographic copies can be obtained from Tower Hamlets Local Studies and Archives (there is a charge for this service) or a maximum of 5 digital copies can be emailed to you. If you would like to use the images for publication or display please contact us at localhistory@towerhamlets.gov.uk

Description:

A street party to celebrate the Coronation of Elizabeth 11, in 1953, for families living in Glen Terrace, Manchester Road. (Just south of the West India Docks entrance, or Blue Bridge). Among the adults: Laurie Babister, Charles Jaggs and Dennis or Roger from the ‘Queen', Mrs Ethel Smith, Mrs Timpkey, Doris Timpkey, Mrs Carrie Babister, Phyllis Lawler, Mrs King, Mrs Liz Beddoe, Mrs Alice Pringle, Arthur and Eunice Smith, Mrs Clark, Violet Logan (nee Beddoe), Joan Maltby, Mrs Ottey. Children: Linda Jaggs, Jean Marsh, Tony Smith, Lennie Logan, Michael Steed, Geoffrey Logan. In the background is Manchester Road with the Queen pub on the right. On the left is the corner shop, Stewart Street, which was a general grocery store run by Margie Whiting and her sister Barbara Shacklady. Mrs King sold newspapers and tobacco in the shop next door.
