The Gallery includes images of the borough's streets and buildings and portraits of people and communities. The Digital Gallery images are displayed as thumbnails. Full size images can be viewed by clicking on a thumbnail.
How do I obtain a copy of an image?
Photographic copies can be obtained from Tower Hamlets Local Studies and Archives (there is a charge for this service) or a maximum of 5 digital copies can be emailed to you. If you would like to use the images for publication or display please contact us at email@example.com
Millwall Docks, Isle of Dogs, 1932. ss. Registan at No. 4 Berth. In the left background of the photograph is the hydraulic swing bridge which led into the West India Docks; the ship is anchored in front of the quayside later occupied by the shipping firm, Olsens, and later still (1991) by the London Arena, a sports and entertainment venue. In 2007/8, the London Arena was demolished and blocks of flats were built on the site. A floating Chinese restaurant has been anchored here for a number of years (2009).
