St. Luke's Hall Alpha Road
St. Luke's Hall, Alpha Road, Isle of Dogs, 1930s Christmas Dance. Ivy and Renee Crane, of Westferry Road, used to organise social evenings every Friday night in this hall. They taught girls of eleven upwards to do ballroom dancing, including the St. Bernard's waltz, the Veleta, the Foxtrot and the Quickstep. These evenings were enjoyed and looked forward to week by week, and at Christmas there was a Grand Dance. Participants are pictured here, with Ivy and Rene Crane in the centre of the middle row. Mrs Lily Evans, the donor of this photograph, is seated fifth from left in the second row from the front. She thinks the band was “The Black Dominoes”. Donated by Mrs L. Evans
