How do I obtain a copy of an image?
Photographic copies can be obtained from Tower Hamlets Local Studies and Archives (there is a charge for this service) or a maximum of 5 digital copies can be emailed to you. If you would like to use the images for publication or display please contact us at email@example.com
Cutler's Westferry Road
1928: A Bank Holiday Outing to Southend from Samuel Cutler's & Son Ltd., Westferry Road, Isle of Dogs. This firm specialised in making steel structures such as gas holders. Among those in the picture are: Chargehand Mr Phillips, George Quide (or Quick), Bert Monk, Joseph Grahams. The last-named worked in the machine shop at Cutler's for five or six years; he lived in Stepney and either walked to work or got a lift. When he left Cutler's he worked at a carrying firm in Hackney. In the back row on the right: Jock Bennett, Taffy Lynch and Punch Turner. In the fourth row, on the left:'Danno' O'Keefe, Charlie Thomas (kept a tobacconist shop in Seysell Street). In the third row, left hand side, Charlie Jewson, on right hand side, George Collier, ‘Darkie' Bill and Dan O'Keefe Jnr. Second row on the left hand side, Harry Grosset (or Gossett), George Webb; on the right hand side, Victor Judge and Bill O'Keefe. Front row, left hand side, ‘Shagger' Smith (in bow tie), Stan Bennett, ‘Dummy' (who was deaf and dumb), Bill Russell and Arthur O'Keefe. Donated by Mr Graham
