The Gallery includes images of the borough's streets and buildings and portraits of people and communities. The Digital Gallery images are displayed as thumbnails. Full size images can be viewed by clicking on a thumbnail.
How do I obtain a copy of an image?
Photographic copies can be obtained from Tower Hamlets Local Studies and Archives (there is a charge for this service) or a maximum of 5 digital copies can be emailed to you. If you would like to use the images for publication or display please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org

L-R: Mrs Grace Bradbrook (1900-1976), Mr George Bradbrook (1898-1974), George Besant Smith (1873-1946), Dorothy Bradbrook (1921-1971). About 1939 at No. 13 Ship Street in the back yard. Mrs Bradbrook worked in Burrells before her marriage, as a waitress in the canteen. Mr G. Bradbrook’s family originated from Ipswich. He was born on the Island, was in the army (War Graves Commission), then had a job at Calders Wharf - a carman for a haulage firm, he brought in chemicals, coal and coke. George was an out and out cockney, a great story teller and lived in Manchester Road. Donated by R.Bradbrook
