St Edmund's School Westferry Rd
St Edmund's School, Westferry Road, Isle of Dogs, in 1911. In the class are: Willy Reilly, Bert Cornish, Micky Benjivengo, Bill Carr, Billy Mitchell, Bert Flanagan, Dave Budd, Billy O'Neill, Tom Murphy, Billy Westwood, John Rooney, Mickey Malcolm, Kate Bradley, Maggie Shea, Jenny Marney, Eva Holmes and Charley Clear. This was taken in the present school, then a new building. The original school on the site was much smaller with only four classrooms. Some of these children lived in Ingelheim Cottages, in the Westferry Road. Samuel Cutler's steel works were opposite the school and at the time of the photograph the head teacher was writing in the school log book that it was nearly impossible to work in the classrooms because of the noise from this factory. Donated by Bessie Boylett
