The Gallery includes images of the borough's streets and buildings and portraits of people and communities. The Digital Gallery images are displayed as thumbnails. Full size images can be viewed by clicking on a thumbnail.
How do I obtain a copy of an image?
Photographic copies can be obtained from Tower Hamlets Local Studies and Archives (there is a charge for this service) or a maximum of 5 digital copies can be emailed to you. If you would like to use the images for publication or display please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
The Thomas family, of 73 Manchester Road (corner of Douglas Street), in the 1920s. At the back, Rosina (1903-1989), n.James Henry Batchelor; Henry (1900-1990),m. Ethel Florence Withers; Florence (1907-1997), m. Edward Albert Blackall In front: George (1871-1943) and Harriet Jane nee Dixey (1870-1935). George and Harriet were both born in Cubitt Town. The family lived over the shop which sold tobacco, sweets and groceries.When George died in 1943 the shop was taken over by Bill Smith, a well-known local newsagent. Donated by Albert Blackall
