Tom Waters, (1904-1960) of Newcastle Street, Isle of Dogs. When the Second World War began in 1939, Tom was working in the docks, which was a”reserved”occupation. Because of the Blitz on London, Tom’s wife and children were evacuated to Langley,in Buckinghamshire. Tom moved to be with them and found a job with “His Master’s Voice”, at Hayes. He was then called up into the Army and served as a gunner, manning what was at the time a new rocket type battery in the Royal Artillery. When the war was over, Tom went back to work in the West India Docks and lived with his family at Dagenham, Essex. Donated by Ron Waters
