Photographed in the back yard of 31 Manilla Street, about 1950 The Donovan family. This family stayed in their home on the Island throughout the Blitz. At the back, Fred (a tailor); Margaret (a machinist); Winnie (a machinist, specialising in making flags); Doris (machinist); Hilda (machinist); and at the end, John, who worked in the nearby docks. In front is Beryl, an office worker; Jack, who also worked in the docks, Alice the mother of the family, and Patrick, son of John. The photograph was taken by Winnie’s husband, because it was rare for all the family to be together. Donated by Mrs M.Woodhouse
