Island Gardens 1905

Image Number:

Island History Trust Image Collection

The river Thames and Greenwich from Island Gardens, showing the foot tunnel entrance on the other side and the ‘Ship' pub on the site of where the Cutty Sark is now displayed. In about 1905 the London County Council took over the river steamer operation from private firms, and had 30 steamers built; this photograph was probably taken at that time.
