Chapel House Place 1957
Coronation celebrations in Chapel House Place, E14 in 1957. Back row: Bill Carter (lorry driver at the Lead Works); Harry Wilson (head electrician at the Lead Works); Carrie Wilson (worked at the Lead Works) and Doreen Carter. Front row: Freddie Platt (kept the fish shop and cafe at the top of the street); Lillian Wilson; Ruth Wootley; Marie Hasle; Flo Marshall and her husband Jo. Friends and neighbours in the street collected money over a period of several months; on the day of the Coronation they erected a stage, closed off the street, brought out a piano and a gramophone and danced in the open air. There was also a tea and a fancy dress parade. [BLACK AND WHITE COLOUR]
