Childcare for Students

Crèches

If your child is aged between six months and five years old, you may be interested in using the crèches at the Idea Store Whitechapel and the Shadwell Centre.

The crèches are available to all children in this age range whose parents or carers are attending daytime courses at these sites.

Places are limited and are offered on a first come first served basis.

Each crèche is registered and inspected by OFSTED and staffed by experienced childcare workers who will encourage and promote the well being and development of each child through carefully planned activities including art and crafts, imaginary play, dressing up, games etc.

Crèche fees do apply and you must check that there is an available place in the crèche.

Before you enrol you will need to complete an application form for the crèche, which is available from the crèche sites during term time. If you need help or information about getting a crèche place for your child you can contact the Crèche on 0798 547 4617.

Family Information Service

Where a crèche is not available, other local childcare options can be explored including childminders, play groups and nurseries etc.

The Family Information Service can provide further information to parents on local initiatives, childcare providers, childcare courses and training, working tax credit and other childcare funding.

The Family Information Service can be contacted on 020 7364 6495 between 8.00am and 6.00pm, Monday - Friday or by email on fis@towerhamlets.gov.uk
