Special Collections
Literature & Music
Libraries across London and the Home Counties work in partnership to ensure that there is access to a comprehensive stock holding. Each library service has agreed to make efforts to buy all new books and audio recordings issued within their special areas of responsibility, in addition to their normal stock purchases.These are then made available to all the other library services.
Tower Hamlets Libraries special areas of responsibility are:
Literature
• Joint Fiction Reserve: Authors ST-SZ
• French and German literature
Music
• Schubert
• Jazz: BRV- CHAL
How will I know if a book or audio item is part of a special collection
When you find an entry on the online catalogue the category will be shown as either 'JFR', 'GLASS' or 'MSC'.
Access to the special collections
As these are special collections borrowing is through reservation only. Reservations can be placed at your local Idea Store or library.
Reference Reserve Stock
The Reserve Stock is a collection of historical reference material that can be consulted at Idea Store Whitechapel on request, including almanacs, yearbooks, law reports and backfiles.
