1. Foundation stage visit

Objectives
Children should learn:
• How to join the library
• What they can do in the library
• The range of stock available in the library and how to find it
• To discuss simple preferences

This Supports:
The Early Years Foundation Stage Early Learning Goals
• Find out about their environment and talk about the features they like
• Maintain attention, concentrate and sit quietly when appropriate
• Continue to be interested, excited and motivated to learn
• Be confident to try new activities, initiate ideas and speak in a familiar group
• Use their imagination in art, design, music, dance, imaginative role play and stories
• Explore and experiment with sounds, words and text


2. Introduction to the Idea Store / Library KS1 and KS2

Objectives
Children should learn:
• How to join the library
• What they can find and do in the library
• Understand the difference between fiction and non-fiction
• The range of stock in the library and how to find it

This supports:
• National Curriculum, English Key Stage1 and 2, speaking, listening and reading skills
• Primary Framework for Literacy and Mathematics: Engaging with and responding to texts

 

 

3. Introduction to the Idea Store / Library KS3

Objectives
Children should learn:
• The range of services available from Tower Hamlets Idea Stores and Libraries
• The layout of the library
• How to use (self service) in selected libraries
• How libraries can help with homework
• The different uses of computers in libraries

This supports:
• National Curriculum, English Key Stage 3, speaking and listening; Group discussion and interaction
• National Curriculum ICT Key Stage 3
• Horrible History Hunt Key stage 1 and 2
