Reading is Fundamental
Idea Stores and Libraries in Tower Hamlets are taking part in a Reading Is Fundamental project and so will be giving away 900 books to 300 children aged 3 and 4, thanks to funding from UBS bank. Reading Is Fundamental, UK (RIF) is a National Literacy Trust initiative, which helps children and young people realise their potential by motivating them to read. Working with trained local volunteer coordinators, RIF helps to introduce children to the fun and excitement of reading by allowing them to choose and keep up to three free books a year.
| In Tower Hamlets we are working with seven nurseries and inviting the children to visit an Idea Store or Library with their class three times. Each child will receive a back pack, three books, a sticker and a bookmark to keep. The children are also entertained by our friendly staff, introduced to the Idea Store or Library and encouraged to visit again with their families. The aim of the project is to encourage children to love books and reading, to introduce them to Idea Stores and Libraries and encourage them to become regular visitors.
