Publishers Respond to Black Writers Guild

Publishers have agreed that they could and should do more to tackle racial inequality in publishing in response to an open letter from the Black Writers Guild. The letter, signed by over 100 writers, set out changes the industry could make to ‘guard against pervasive inequality’ and ‘unearth more talent and help nurture a thriving literary culture in this country.’ Let’s watch this space.

Spanish author Carlos Ruiz Zafón dies aged 55

Carlos Ruiz Zafón, author of six novels including The Shadow of the Wind, had been ill with cancer. Speaking to The Guardian, his translator from Spanish to English, Lucia Graves said “He was witty, kind, with a quick, clear mind and we talked about his characters as if they were living friends.”


Bertram Books Enters into Administration

Book wholesaler and supplier to libraries Bertram Books, entered into administration on 19th June making 450 staff redundant. With one less competitor in the already limited stock supplier market, this could have a knock on effect on the ability of libraries to negotiate beneficial stock contracts.
