Glengall Grove Marshfield Street 1946
1946 - Lampost in the foreground is in Glengall Grove, and the old ruined houses on the left are in Marshfield Street. In the distance on the right is St. John's Church, showing the bellturret, and in the centre background is the remaining block of Judkin Flats. All the space covered by the new pre-fabricated town was once occupied by East Ferry Road, Plevna Street, Castalia, Launch, Galbraith, Strattondale and Marshfield Streets. The pre-fabs look as if they have just been built - no curtains up yet. Many Island families who had lost their homes in the Blitz were housed in the pre-fabs, some for up to 20 years. There were also pre-fabs in Stebondale Street. by St. John's Parish Magazine
