Island History Trust Image Collection

Dr Morris Blasker, a much loved Island doctor, who came to the Island from Charing Cross Hospital in the 1930s, and stayed until his death in December 1974. He took over the practice from Dr Millae, in Manchester Road. Dr Blasker was keen on sport and taught boxing to the boys at the Dockland Settlement. During the Second World War, he was bombed out and moved to Manchester Grove, but he continued to treat his patients throughout the Blitz. He gave his services to the Island wholeheartedly. Before the Welfare State, he would treat patients for what they could afford. After his death a memorial fund in his name raised enough money for three kidney machines for the London Hospital. by M.
