How do I obtain a copy of an image?
Photographic copies can be obtained from Tower Hamlets Local Studies and Archives (there is a charge for this service) or a maximum of 5 digital copies can be emailed to you. If you would like to use the images for publication or display please contact us at email@example.com
Gertrude Batchelor 1910s
Gertrude Batchelor, aged 17 in 1915. She was born in 1898 and worked in the sack factory, Levy Bros and Knowles on Millwall. She used to have to mend ‘dirty old sacks that had had meat come out of them'. She married Percy Gaskin when she was 21, then later married George William Hathorn a docker, and stopped work. She had eight children, two by the first marriage and lived in Westferry Road, then moved to Hesperus Crescent when it was first built. She died in 1970 aged 72. ‘She was a hard worker'. by Mrs Hathorn
