How do I obtain a copy of an image?

Photographic copies can be obtained from Tower Hamlets Local Studies and Archives (there is a charge for this service) or a maximum of 5 digital copies can be emailed to you. If you would like to use the images for publication or display please contact us at

Island History Trust Image Collection


12th December 1974: the Diamond Wedding of Bella and Alf Lauder. They lived on the Island at No. 22 Havannah Street, until the Blitz, when they moved to Romford Includes five of their children and their grandchildren Mt Lauder worked on the trams from Barking to Bloomsbury and then on the trolley buses. As a side line, the Lauders used to hire out Bicycles from their house which was next door to the Pride of the Isle pulic house. There were no “Ladies” in the Pride and the women used to knock at No. 22 to use the toilet. They usually left a ha'penny for the children. Mrs Lauder died at the age of 89 and Mr Lauder when he was 95. Donated by Mrs D. St. Peir
