The Gallery includes images of the borough's streets and buildings and portraits of people and communities. The Digital Gallery images are displayed as thumbnails. Full size images can be viewed by clicking on a thumbnail.
How do I obtain a copy of an image?
Photographic copies can be obtained from Tower Hamlets Local Studies and Archives (there is a charge for this service) or a maximum of 5 digital copies can be emailed to you. If you would like to use the images for publication or display please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
The Jenkins family, Emily and Benjamin, of No. 63 Galbraith Street, in 1908. Left to right at the back: Fred, married Dora from Manchester, died there 1928, served in the First World War; Frank Vernon Gentry, lived at No. 73 Galbraith Street and then at No. 42 Stebondale Street, ended up in Warrington, Cheshire; Maud married Fred Burdette, Blair Street, Poplar, later lived in Dagenham; Benjamin, married Eva who died young, then married Edith, from Leicester, lived in Welling, Kent. In front: Grace, married Charles Jones from Kilburn, lived at No. 63 Galbraith Street, then Dagenham, Ilford and Swanley Kent, died 1973; William, married Violet Dyson from Plaistow, lived at No. 63 Galbraith Street the Dagenham, worked for Alexandra Tug Company, Wapping; Ada, married Alfred Stevens who had a draper's shop in Marshfield Street, later lived in Bromley Kent.
