William Thomas Whiffin, photographer, 1878 - 1957 William was born in Poplar and had his first studio in Kensall Rise. In 1911 he returned to Poplar and set up a business with his brother Ernest and their father at 237 East India Dock Road. Between the wars he worked freelance and for Poplar Borough Council, taking pictures of buildings. His clients included the PLA and London Transport as well as many private individuals. His photographs appeared in many publications and continue to be appreciated in the 21st century.
