Census 2021 Famous Faces of the Borough

The first census was in 1801 and the most recent in 2011. The census is carried out by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). It gives a snapshot of the nation and helps to plan and fund public services. This include schools, new homes and health services. The next one happened on Sunday 21 March 2021. Here we take a look back through our records at the lives of notable local people from the past.

Tower Hamlets has been home to some notable people, and the census provides an insight into their lives. In addition to using the collections held here at Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives, we can build a picture of their lives.
