Course Title: Becoming confident in Digital Skills part 1 & 2 (Entry 2)
Want to feel more confident using a computer, tablet or phone? This course helps you improve your digital skills for everyday life, learning, and work. You’ll practise useful tasks like creating documents, searching online, and using digital tools safely and confidently.
Part 1 - 22.5 hour course (over 9 classes)
Part 1 focuses on developing confidence in using common apps and tools like Microsoft Word, internet browsers and email.
Objectives:
- Edit and format a one-page letter, so I can request an appointment or support in a clear, professional way.
- Send an email with one attachment, so I can email a scanned photo of my ID to enrol on a new course.
- Organise my inbox with folders and delete junk, so I don’t miss important messages.
- Search using helpful keywords and bookmark a page, so I can quickly find council or NHS information again.
Part 2 - 22.5 hour course (over 9 classes)
Part 2 introduces more independent digital tasks like online form filling, e-safety and security, and use of Office 365 collaborative and AI tools to support writing, planning and solving problems.
Objectives:
- Create a simple two-column table, so I can list monthly bills and amounts for budgeting.
- Update my device and use stronger passwords/2-step check, so I reduce the risk of scams.
- Use collaborative tools in Google or Office 365 apps to create an event for the community, including a poster and schedule.
- Complete an online sign-up or application form and upload a file, so I can register for a community course, or apply for a voluntary position.
Entry requirements:
You should have completed a beginner course (such as First Steps or Digital Skills for ESOL) or have some basic confidence using a computer or phone. You should be able to type a short sentence and follow instructions in English at Entry 3 or above.

What examination is there:
There is no examination for this course. You will agree learning goals with your tutor which you must achieve by the end of the course.
How will I know I am making progress:
At the start of the course, your tutor will talk with you about which of your digital skills you need to practise most and help you create an individual learning plan. Throughout the course, you will have a tutorial meeting to discuss your strengths, areas for improvement, and any problems you may have. You will keep a folder with your work, which will help you review your learning outside of class. Your tutor will give you regular feedback on your class work and homework to help you improve. To make progress, you need to attend all your classes and do work outside of class.
