Exhibition
The Camera as a Witness: Forty Years of Tower Hamlets
A Photographic Diary by Raju Vaidyanathan: 1983-Present day
Displayed until the end of May at Idea Store Canary Wharf
Born and raised on Brick Lane, photographer and “history collector” Raju Vaidyanathan has spent his life rooted in Tower Hamlets. Raju has always been closely connected to the streets and people he photographed, a relationship that shapes every image he makes.
Since 1983, he has quietly built a visual diary of the borough, possessing over forty thousand black‑and‑white negatives that capture neighbours, football teams, youth clubs, markets, and everyday street life, with the most significant of these works displayed in this exhibition.
