Brief course description:
This is a year-long course divided up into four 9-week parts. You can join any part over the year.
You will learn useful English for everyday life and work. You will practice reading, writing, speaking and listening through fun and practical activities. Topics include daily routines, jobs and skills, healthy living, shopping, transport, digital skills, teamwork, and green jobs.
You will build your confidence in using English at home, in your community and at work. You will learn job-related language, interview skills, how to use digital devices, and how to plan your future.
Objectives:
- Ask and answer simple questions about yourself, your routine, and your job.
- Speak clearly in short conversations about everyday topics like food, family and work.
- Describe people, places and routines using basic words and grammar.
- Listen and understand short conversations and instructions.
- Write simple sentences, notes, and messages using correct punctuation.
- Use digital skills such as filling in a form or writing an email.
- Plan a journey and talk about travel and transport.
- Learn and talk about green jobs and caring for the environment.
- Understand workplace rights and how to behave safely at work.
- Write a short CV and practice for interviews.
Entry requirements:
This is an Entry 1 ESOL class for adults over 19 years old.
You are just starting to learn English. You might know a few words or short sentences, and now you want to build your skills and confidence.
You will need to do a pre-course assessment to check which level you are working towards.
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
Feel more confident using English at home, outside and at work.
Talk to other people, fill in forms, write short emails, and understand signs and notices.
Use English to help you find work or do more learning.

- A folder
- Pens & pencils
- Lined A4 paper
- A smartphone (if you have one)
- A reusable water bottle
We will give you the WIFI details in the first lesson.

What examination is there:
There is no examination for this course. You will agree individual learning goals with your tutor which you must achieve by the end of the course.
How will I know I am making progress:
At the start of the course, your teacher will talk to you about the English you need to practise most. Together, you will make a learning plan.
During the course, you will have a meeting with your teacher to talk about what you are good at, what you need to get better at, and any problems you have.
- You will keep a folder with your work. This will help you look back and remember what you have learned.
- Your teacher will give you feedback on your class work and homework. This will help you improve.
- To make good progress, you must come to all your classes and do some work at home.
You will lose your place if you miss 3 classes in a row without telling your tutor or if miss 4 lessons in total.

One of our goals is to help you improve your skills for work or further studies. We also want to help you join in your community and be an active citizen. In our classes, you will learn important skills that employers look for, like:
- Communication Skills: How to talk and write clearly.
- Decision-Making: How to make good choices.
- Working Together: How to work well with others.
These skills will help you in many parts of your life.
