Brief course description:
This is a one-year course. The course has four parts. Each part is 9 weeks. You can start at the beginning of any part.
In Part A, you will learn about women’s voices in the world. You will learn about leadership, fairness, and climate change. You will improve your reading, speaking, writing and listening. You will do group work and take part in projects. You will help with Green Week and plan a toy swap. You will write letters and meet a guest speaker.
In Parts B, C and D, you will help decide what we learn. You will choose a topic or a project with your classmates. This course is about using your voice — in English and in the community.
You will learn new grammar and vocabulary. You will become more confident in English. You will practise real English for life, work and study.
Objectives:
- Talk about women leaders and say what qualities a good leader has using adjectives and comparatives
- Give your opinion and agree or disagree in group discussions about fairness and equality
- Read and understand a letter or petition about women and the environment and answer questions
- Write short texts such as a letter or a poster using paragraphs, time markers and persuasive language
- Use grammar such as “can”, “should”, “have to”, present perfect and comparatives when having class discussions.
- Use topic-related vocabulary about women’s rights, climate change, leadership, and safety
- Ask and answer questions during a guest speaker visit and write about what you learnt
- Plan a small project with your classmates (e.g. a toy swap or Green Week stall)
- Talk about your learning and what you want to learn next
- Use phones or tablets to find information, take photos, or make a digital poster
Entry requirements:
This is an Entry 3 ESOL class. You can already talk and write about everyday topics and communicate your ideas clearly. You are beginning to use the past tense and present perfect. You are working on improving your grammar and vocabulary for more formal or professional contexts. You will need to complete a pre-course assessment.

Please bring:
- A folder
- Pens & pencils
- Lined A4 paper
- A smartphone (if you have one)
- A reusable water bottle
We will give you the WIFI details in the first lesson.

This is a four-part course over the year, so each term you can progress onto the next stage. There are also other courses you can do after or at the same time as this course:

What examination is there:
There is no examination for this course. You will agree individual learning goals with your tutor which you must achieve by the end of the course.
How will I know I am making progress:
At the start of the course, your tutor will talk with you about your goals and help you create an individual learning plan (ILP). You will have tutorial meetings to review your progress and discuss your strengths and areas for improvement. You will receive regular feedback on your work, including classwork, homework, and project tasks. You will need to attend all your classes and complete activities outside of class to make good progress.
You will lose your place if you miss 3 classes in a row without telling your teacher or if you miss 4 classes in total.

This course supports your personal development and helps you become an active citizen. You will build important skills for work and life, including:
- Communication: speaking and writing clearly
- Teamwork: working well with others
- Problem-solving: dealing with common issues in childcare
- Digital Skills: using technology for learning and working
You will also have the chance to meet local professionals and council representatives to share your ideas and opinions.
