Brief course description:

This is a year-long course divided up into four 9-week parts. You can join any part over the year.

In this course, you will learn how to write in English for everyday life. You will practise useful writing tasks such as filling in forms, sending simple emails, and writing about your daily life, family, feelings, and opinions. You will also learn how to read short texts like signs, letters, and messages to help you with your writing. Each lesson will help you build your vocabulary, use correct grammar, and write more clearly and confidently.

By the end of the course, you will be able to write simple sentences, share information about yourself, describe people and places, and use punctuation correctly. You will feel more confident writing in English at home, in your community, and when using services like schools, healthcare, or job centres.

Objectives:

  1. Write simple sentences using basic grammar, such as “I live in London” or “She likes apples.”
  2. Write short texts, letters or emails to introduce yourself, describe your day, or send messages to friends, neighbours or teachers.
  3. Ask and answer yes/no questions in writing and write about your daily routine using time words like first, then, and next.
  4. Use question words (what, where, when, who) to ask for information in writing.
  5. Follow and write simple instructions or directions (e.g. “Go straight and turn left”).
  6. Write about places or people using there is / there are and descriptive words.
  7. Write about what you can do or like doing using simple modal verbs (e.g. I can cook, I like swimming).
  8. Use adjectives and nouns to describe things (e.g. My phone is on the table, The weather is cold).
