Brief course description:

This is a 9-week ESOL Level 2 Writing exam course.

You will learn how to plan, organise, and write for different purposes and audiences, including formal and informal styles. You will practise writing letters, emails, articles, and reports, ensuring correct grammar, punctuation, and structure. You will also work on filling in forms accurately and presenting information in a clear, logical way.

By the end of the course, you will be confident in producing accurate, well-organised written work and will be ready for the Ascentis ESOL Skills for Life Level 2 Writing exam.

Objectives:

  1. Plan and organise writing – Use mind maps or bullet points to prepare for a formal email for example to a housing agency.
  2. Write with the correct register – Produce two versions of the same message (formal and informal) to adapt tone for different audiences.
  3. Use a variety of sentence structures – Combine simple, compound, and complex sentences in a report for example about community activities.
  4. Punctuate accurately – Edit a short article to correct punctuation, including commas, apostrophes, colons, and semi-colons.
  5. Complete forms accurately – Fill in an application form with all required details, ensuring correct spelling, grammar, and clarity.

Throughout the course, you will have a tutorial meeting to discuss your strengths, areas for improvement, and any problems you may have.
